Spray Painting Laminate

A few years ago, I found this small bookcase at the dollar store.  It was less than $10.  This was before I had been introduced to thrift stores, the Goodwill, etc.  Anyway, I bought it.  Rather ugly. Very ugly. And a bit dusty. But, nonetheless, it came home with me. My son used it in his room for action figures, books, whatever.  Since I am making changes to that room, this little treasure was no longer needed.

Since the bookcase is a combination of laminate and plastic, I began with Zinsser Cover Stain.  I used the same primer for this project.  I have learned that you don’t HAVE to prime when using spray paint (except for certain things). Read these Spray Paint FAQs from Centsational Girl.  Her blog has been very helpful to me.  So…being the super bright person I am, I thought I would spray paint it using Rustoleum in Heirloom White.  Lovely color. I have seen it used on many pieces of furniture and it always looks fantastic.  Unless it totally disappears into the wall.  Take a look at my invisible bookcase.

Not sure what I was thinking….???? The walls in our home are very light.  I would have never chosen light walls…but it is what it is Smile. I did repaint the bookcase. I used Krylon in Oxford Blue. The playroom will be its new home.
