Spray Painting Laminate

A few years ago, I found this small bookcase at the dollar store.  It was less than $10.  This was before I had been introduced to thrift stores, the Goodwill, etc.  Anyway, I bought it.  Rather ugly. Very ugly. And a bit dusty. But, nonetheless, it came home with me. My son used it in his room for action figures, books, whatever.  Since I am making changes to that room, this little treasure was no longer needed.

Front Porch Pendant Light

§ May 20th, 2011 § Filed under Before and After, front entrance, miscellaneous § Tagged , § 3 Comments

Happy Friday everyone! If you were here last Friday, then you know I promised an update each week on my front entrance makeover.  I do have a small update to share Smile.  Last Saturday, we made a family trip to Home Depot.  Who knew that growing up and owning a house also meant frequent trips to the hardware store?  My husband needed fertilizer for the lawn – he does a great job with our yard!  Then we strolled down the outdoor light aisle.  So many pretty lights, but so little money Winking smile.  However, we did find this one for $29.97!

Definitely not fancy.  Very simple.  Very affordable.  Very us Smile.

Our front entrance needs a makeover!

Our front entry need some attention Sad smile

Front entry 001

Some changes have been over the last 2 years. I do not have pictures of the before, but it was rough! We added red recycled rubber and moved several small shrubs from the flower bed. The rocks were free from a neighbor (thank you), but I think we need new ones. I really want to rip out all of the existing shrubs and start over.  But not sure if our budget will allow that Smile.

We need a new door or at least paint this one.  Some pretty plants (my black thumb is not allowed to touch them)? Maybe a hanging pendant/lantern porch light?  A bright, summer wreath?

I want to rearrange and expand the walkway.  The two pots need to find a new home Smile.  Really just spruce it up a bit. As always, I welcome all suggestions!

Happy Friday! Have a wonderful weekend!

Make your workspace pretty :)

§ April 27th, 2011 § Filed under Before and After, miscellaneous, organization, spray paint § Tagged , , § 4 Comments

I taught elementary school for 6+ years Smile. I was never very organized.  My desk was never clean.  I always had to dig for staples, paperclips, etc. One of my teacher friends asked me for suggestions on organizing her classroom.  As I mentioned, I wasn’t very organized myself, but…I have picked up a few ideas while substituting for the last 2 years Smile .  This is a tray on my workstation at home.

The tray was on clearance at Walmart – $2.50.  Before it was red….

Now it’s black.  Spray paint you deserve a pat on the back Winking smile.  I used the leftover paint from the bed makeover.

The large vase $3 at Walmart, the small glass containers $1 at the Dollar Tree, the stapler was from my old classroom, and the notepad $4 at Marshalls.  Total cost:  around $12

If you don’t have a space for a big tray, you can use small containers inside drawers or on a bookshelf.  Use items that make you smile.  For me, when my desk/area looks pretty Smile it makes me happy.  Too bad it took so many years to figure that one out! I will be posting more organizing tips over the next several weeks.

Happy Hump Day!

Jen
