Motivation? Strange word. It hasn’t been part of my vocabulary for the last few weeks.
Where have I been?
In a slump. That’s where.
That is until my Little Z man brought this home from school.

His New Year’s Resolution art work. He told me being organized meant not leaving your mess everywhere. :)
Love that little guy! This reminded me of my Living with Less in 2012 motto.
Goodbye slump! My baking cabinet was happy to see me.

Some items didn’t belong in this space…like the Louisiana Crab Boil ;) I “shopped” in my house/kitchen for containers to use and also removed the spice rack.
Will it remain this neat and tidy? We shall see :)

Happy Thursday! Thursday has always been my favorite day of the week :) Hope you are having a great one. Today, I have a Living with Less update…the guest room closet reveal.

No, it’s not elaborately organized, but it is functional. The storage containers are filled with seasonal decorations and craft supplies. Glad to have these items all in one location.
I allowed myself one hour to sort through everything that was in the closet – keep or donate – the only options ;)

I kept one storage container (dust included), moved some items to the kitchen (yes, to be used), and the rest is waiting to be donated.

These frames will be used for the gallery wall/shelf. I have procrastinated on that project for way to long. It will get done :) Has anyone else been cleaning out/organizing..or at least attempting too?
Talk to you soon.

Hopefully, your New Year is off to a fantastic beginning!!! The start of a new year always brings new possibilities, new dreams, and new project lists for me. Lists, lists, lists…and storage containers. For years, my solution for clutter (a.k.a stuff) organization has been storage containers. My husband will get a good laugh out of this post ;) Throw it in a container, and BAM! its clean. Whatever! Out of sight, but not out of mind. Not my mind anyway.
Storage containers are useful. For things like camping gear, sports equipment, seasonal items (décor, clothes, shoes, etc.)…items that need to or should be stored.
Storage containers are not meant (in my opinion) for these items: I found on this clearance but really don’t have a place for it, 236 gifts bags, oh we may use that one day, WTH is this anyway…..you get my point ;)
My year will not be based around organization. I have organized stuff/junk/things for years! My year will be based on simplifying my life and home. Living with less in 2012 :)
I posted my guest room bedroom closet last week.

Since then, I moved everything from the closet OUT and into the bedroom.

Yes, that sofa is still in the room.
How many storage containers do you see?

The closet looks the way it did when we moved in 3 years ago.
I am slowly sorting through items to keep, donate, and/or makeover. I will keep you posted.
Happy Thursday!

Christmas is over. The week after Christmas always makes me a little sad. After all the hustle and bustle, I am not sure what to do with my time. The last thing I want to do is clean. But it must be done. Last year, I blogged about organization and living with less from time to time. As always, that motivation lasted for a little while, then *POOF* it disappeared. So, today, I am hear to say my motto for next year is – Living With Less in 2012. This is not a New Year’s Resolution. I do not declare resolutions. It is simply a motto that I plan to live by ;) Raise your hand if you want to join with me and declare this as your motto too! Maybe I will start here.

My guest room junk closet.
I see you shaking your head ;)
From time to time, my blog posts will feature cleaning out and living with less. If we have less in our homes, then there will be less to clean and organize :)
Rules:
Items will be purchased only if needed or will be used within a reasonable amount of time (example: a good sale on hand soap).
Items purchased will have a place to live (the junk closet does not count as a place to live).
If new items are purchased, then something must be donated (if worthy) it it’s place (buy a new handbag, a handbag must go).
If I purchase a thrift store “project”, I have exactly 6 weeks to complete my wonderful project idea ;) – I will not store in the garage.
Just because it is 90% off doesn’t mean it comes home to live.
I may add more rules later, but right now I can’t think of anymore :) My mind is tired.
